5/21/2023 0 Comments Soundstream usb.8a![]() If you don’t do this the unit will only play when the parking brake is on. This is not for me as a driver to watch video, but for my passenger who may want to watch a movie on a long trip. Of course, do not hook it up to the parking brake as if you want to do this in order to watch DVD's when driving. That’s my advice you don’t have to take it.Ī helpful DVD install hint is to connect the brown parking wire to one of the black ground cables on the unit (doesn’t matter which one). Just keep the adjustments under 3 or so in any of the bands and you should have better results that way. I say this because some people go crazy with these controls and then wonder why their system doesn’t sound good. There is also a nice 10 band EQ that works great if you don’t set things to the extreme. The unit sounds very clean and I'm an audiophile kind of guy, so when I say this unit sounds clean I mean it's basically top quality. I think they meant greater than 90db (not 60 db) and it is clearly a clean signal over 90db Signal to Noise ratio based on my extensive experience with audio equipment. It is listed as greater than 60db and it is clearly a typo. Also, I would like to mention that there is a typo in the specsheet in the owners manual for the head unit’s DVD signal to noise ratio. ![]() I’m talking about an audiophile sound that has clear balance and lower bass. I have a Bose System in my 370Z but the SoundStream USB 8A sounds even better. Personally, I think the USB 8A powered sub amp combo is the adult full range sound you find in Luxury European Cars and Bose systems. The USB 8A (not included with this unit) is a great choice for but if you want to boom and rattle your doors off you’ll want a big box and a more powerful amp. The sub amp came with a nice level control knob which I have found to be very handy. I've tried all kinds of settings and 120Hz and 12 on the "time alignment" worked best for my 8" Soundstream USB 8A powered sub amp combo in my Jeep Cherokee. There is a sub-woofer setting called "time alignment" 0-18ms though I'm wondering if it is a slope adjustment for the crossover. There are RCA preouts for Front, Rear and a mono sub output (has sub controls on the head unit for Low Pass crossover points at 50, 80, 120, 160Hz. You'll know what I mean when you look over this in person. You can tell by the way the unit is built. Based on my experience of over 30 years I can tell you that this unit is on par with any top quality unit on the market. In the past I've used Nackamichi, Alpine, Kenwood and JVC just to mention a few. You can send a text message while driving via hands free mic – Awesome!Īudio quality of this unit is great. Other nice touches is sending a text using Siri. Siri can set the destination for you – Awesome! I also tried out Spotifiy audio and the sound quality was fantastic. The map graphics on the display are ultra clear which I was not expecting for a unit in this price range. I’ve used the Car Play to use the Navigation on my I-Phone and it works great and the sound comes over the speakers for turn by turn directions. I also found that you need a good cord, some of my aftermarket cables were too loose at the lightning connector and car play would not stay on (Cable was loose). Also, there is a setting on your I phone (Settings-General-Car Play make sure "allow car play while locked" is selected (green). Initially I didn't do this and thought the unit was defective. This is required even though you are using the cord for Apple Car Play operation. You must first connect your car via blutooth before trying to use Apple Car Play. I would have been nice if the unit had a 2nd USB drive built in, Or better yet an internal drive to store mp3 files on. The USB Drive worked but the Apple Car Play did not. I wanted one for a USB Drive and the other for the Apple Car Play. I was really hoping I could use the splitter so that i could have two USB terminals from the single one that is provided by the rear cable. I was trying to use a USB data and power combination cable that makes one USB output to two outputs using a y cable device. ![]() Apple Car Play tips: I had a little trouble at first with the Apple Car Play not working. Other than the lack of display sensitivity, I can tell you that this unit is fantastic and a great value at this price range. There is a provided wireless remote which I personally use more than the screen buttons. I consider the unit is 4.5 out of 5 but there is no way to rate it that way in the settings. Great Performance and Value a must for Apple I Phone owners!
